(continued) My sisters and I were really looking forward to the advertised "simple and tasty" breakfast. The pictured granola parfait looked lovely. We weren't served that. Neither were were served anything simple or tasty. We had to make our own coffee (which I don't mind doing)but the supplies were ancient. We took pictures it was so bad. The coffee and tea were kept in rusty old tins and the sugar was stuck in a block in an old jelly jar. Double yuck. We actually pedalled, hungry, up to Rhineland for breakfast. I guess I should try to say one positive thing: our hostess, Lois, seemed like a nice person.

Although I understand your disappointment, after looking at the Acorn website I see that the place is for sale and that the room rate is comparable with Motel 6 type lodging. I guess if you know they no longer want to run the place and the rate is low, low....you get what you pay for.

Perhaps you're a member of the family there, Trek. The place was comparable in price to the other 6 places we stayed during the week and it was HORRID. Just didn't want other folks to be deceived.

If you're close to Rheinland anyway - I was very pleased with my stay at the Dollhouse B&B in Rheinland. I thought Amanda was an excellent hostess. As an added bonus, she went out of the way to help me get a much needed bicycle repair arranged with a shop in Hermann while I was there that enabled me to complete my trip in time to attend my son's college soccer game in St. Charles.

I don't like to see others deceived either....and I'm not a member of the Nut family. Their website simply leaves a few clues when shopping for lodging.....one is that the place is for sale and the second is that room rates start at $55. I've never stayed there while visiting Hermann and probably won't because of those clues and your review. Thanks for helping to keep us all informed....that's what the Comment Forum is here for.
