We camped here over Memorial Weekend, riding to Hartsburg & back one day, Columbia & back the next, and Rocheport and back on the third day.

We found this to be a comfortable place to set up our pop-up camper, hot showers, and the store is very accomodating in their hours.

Only drawbacks were:
1. The distance from the campground to the restrooms/showers (at the store), and they are in the process of building new restroom/showers down closer to the campground.
2. The badly behaved adults and children on the site next to us. The adults kept parking their vehicles, including a truck with boat hitched to it, in front of our camping spot, once blocking us in. The children were not supervised and had several mud fights, etc. in our camp site.
Overall, a good campground, and I would recommend.

We camped here the weekend after Memorial Day, and found it to be a gorgeous spot on the river, with plenty of breeze to keep the skeeters down. I agree that the restrooms are a longish way away, but with a bike, it's not a problem.

I have always found him really expensive when I have stopped there.

For example, a can of soda is $1.00. I guess he has to do what he has to do to stay open
but I think I can make it to the next stop next time.

robert, from columbia,

no offense, but a $1.00 for a can of soda is not expensive in any way. your normal cooler price (soda machine) is at least a dollar. i personally paid (got robbed at holiday inn select in columbia) $2.50 for a bottle of soda, and that was 2 yrs ago, so $1.00 for a can is not expensive at all, and besides, it is helping the businesses on the katy. think of what it is costing him to buy that can of soda, and keep it cool for ya, then you try and open a business on the katy and make ends meet. if it was easy, there would be more businesses open.

have a nice day.

Frank from Missouri,

Applying your logic.....did you get robbed at Holiday Inn? Or does it cost them to serve the customer too? They certainly have more in overhead and inventory than most small businesses along the trail. You were helping a business along the I-70 corridor. Corporate America needs money too.....do your part man.

robert from columbia on 6/12/2007 12:51:30 PM:
My job as a consumer in this capitalist society is to decide where to spend my money.

I think $1.00 for a can of soda is too expensive for me. You might think its fair but I dont
so I wont stop there anymore.

Different strokes for different folks!

see ya

i will make this comment, then stop this discussion. corporate buys the products ALOT more cheaper (it's called bulk) than does a small business. i hve no problem with corporate america making money. besides, i have stayed at that hotel many tmes, and had no problem with the cost. and a fair price is a fair price. but 2.50 for a 20 ounce bottle of soda is robbery in any ones standards, like it or not. me and robert disagree, and the gentleman he is gave his opinion like me and it will stop there. we may disagree, but thats o k.

like robert said, different strokes, for different folks.

have a nice day.

We all have our differing opinions and experiences. I personally have found Katfish Katy's to be a welcome stop on many bike trips, and I took the opportunity to post my camping experiences there as well.

Some may not stop, because of other experiences.

I know that many people are thrilled with their experiences, for example, at the Katy Bed & Bikefest, but my experience there, and the follow-up with the owners, was less than ideal, so I will likely not return.

We should try to mention the positives and negatives of our experiences with any of the businesses along the trail, giving others the information to make their own decisions about whether they will or won't visit those establishments.
