If you unpack your bike in the airport and walk out the doors on the level with the baggage carrousels you can cross under the parking and the north Highway 70 frontage road to the 'bus port' Ride your bike to the right (east) out of the bus port and under highway 70 to the south frontage road then left towards Woodson or right to wander through residential streets. Very brief time in the traffic.

Coming to the airport, take frontage road west from Woodson, duck under highway 70 and ride right up to either the arrival or departure level.

I do this frequently and then walk my bike through the airport to the metrolink.

We want to get from St. Louis airport to Katy trail head in Sept 2014. Need safe route from airport to trail. Anywhere to leave our bike boxes at airport for return flight out? Two experienced cycling tourists. Thanks for advice.

I'll throw out another option I don't see mentioned anywhere. There is an airport shuttle service (MoX) that picks up at both St. Louis and KC airports and runs to downtown Columbia. Their terminal there is about a mile north of the MKT connector into downtown Columbia. The Katy is about 10 miles ride down the MKT spur to McBaine. Cost to Columbia is about $60 one way. They might also ferry you on to Boonville from St.L or drop you off in Boonville if coming from KC. MoX is a private operation run by a couple of free spirits. For a larger group, they might be convinced to ferry you on to Sedalia or Clinton.

There are 4 bike shops in Columbia that carry most of the major brands to assist with setup or parts. Two are within 2 blocks of the MKT trailhead downtown. There are two hotels in downtown Columbia within 6 blocks or so of the MKT trailhead and the Hampton Inn on Stadium Blvd. is about 200 yards from a connector trail leading to the MKT.

Anyway, might be an option for someone wanting to do just a part of it. From Columbia, about 150 miles back to St. Charles.
