My son and I stayed at Polly's in October on a through trip. Polly's B&B is great! The accommodations are right next to the trail head, the house and rooms are clean and well appointed, the shower was hot, breakfast was delicious and bountiful - there were only two other guests staying at the B&B with us and I think Polly must have cooked for 10 - but most importantly, Polly was a pleasure to visit with. Thank you for making our stay great Polly!

her home is beautiful, clean and truly comfortable. Her breakfast was

delicious, with everything you could ask for! She really makes you feel

like you are family and she has to be the one of the best values on the

trail!!

I had planned to stop in Booneville, but broke down between Beaman and Clifton City and staggered into Pilot Grove. I inquired about a room and was told the B&B was closed. When I asked if there was any other place to stay (I had already been told the Pilot Grove B&B & Flower Shop was out of business) and explained my problem, she said to come on in. The accommodations, breakfast and hospitality couldn't have been better. She saved me from a tight spot.

Margaret R from Bluffton SC on 12/14/2008 06:37 PM:
I have been to Polly's many times while in Missouri and you cannot beat her warm beds, great breakfasts, good conversation....and the best ever homemade coconut cream pie....she bakes them herself in the morning... I go to Missouri just to eat a couple of pieces of these culinary delights!! And I can see her opening her closed B&B doors to the person with car trouble on November 1st, she's just that special of a person.

A delightful place run by a wonderful lady. Polly is the retired postmistress of Pilot Grove and runs a wonderful, inexpensive B&B with a huge breakfast. We've stayed there twice. Dining options are skimpy some evenings in Pilot Grove, so check with Polly before you get there. She serves lunches and may fix you something for dinner, although we used the general store, which closes at 7 pm. Three rooms, bath down the hall, peaceful screened front porch.

Hi Aunt Polly,

I just came across this site to comment on the B&B, and I just want to say that your place is great!! I may only make it home once every several years now since my Dad's passing, but I hope to see you again soon. Everyone must go there for the pie!!! No one makes pie like my Aunt Polly, and I am not prejudice on bit!! Oops, I hope you are still making pie, if not you may be in trouble now.

Love,

Your Texan niece, Teri

Polly's B&B and Tea Room (Pilot Grove)
John Seng from Rockville, MD on 07/08/2007 09:04 PM:
My son and I stayed at Polly's on June 12 2007, and had a great time. As with another entry, you gotta go for the home made pizza at the local general store.

Our room was perfect, no detail or need overlooked.

Polly's Perch is a unique find, being a tea room nestled in rural Missouri. Polly prepared a sumptious breakfast, giving us bikers nearly a day's full of delectable calories to ride another 50 miles or so. For a tea room, try the coffee at Polly's. It's great.

Rick from Wichita on 08/07/2007 09:03 AM:
This place is truely a wonderful B&B!!

It has to do with the attention to details. Chocolates on the towels, two types of body wash for man or woman, iced tea upon arrival, as well as some homemade peach pie a la mode! I swear I can think of nothing that could have been better! She even woke up early to serve us homecooked breakfast-blueberry pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, cerial, and bannanas. Polly was sweet and caring, and interested in talking about anything. She also washed our bottles, and filled them with ice water the next day...like I said details...I don't think you could go wrong staying here!

MAH from Blue Springs, MO on 08/07/2007 09:25 AM:
There's been so many glowing comments about Polly's on this board, I think I'll plan my next ride just so I can overnight in Pilot Grove at Polly's.

Rick from Wichita on 08/07/2007 02:32 PM:
I promise you won't be dissapointed! Also, Pilot Grove is about 45 miles from Windsor, and 60 miles from Clinton, so hope that helps your planning. Be aware that there is a steady climb into Pilot Grove from both directions...Polly's is well worth the climb though!

Douglas Smith from Wentzville, Missouri on 06/30/2008 09:19 AM:
We made a return trip to Polly's this past Thursday evening and had another great experience. Polly is such a great hostess and even took us in and made us a great breakfast early on the morning of her birthday. We rode the entire trail, and staying at Polly's was once again one of the trip's highlights.

Polly from Pilot Grove on 07/13/2008 10:35 AM:
I want to thank all my bikers for the wonderful comments. I don't mind getting up early to fix breakfast (even on my birthday!) All my guests have been interesting, polite and considerate and being a "down-home" person it makes the experience even more enjoyable for me. Meeting new people and learning about the world through my guest's experiences is like a vacation for me every time someone stays at Polly's. (One biker told me I ought to pay him to stay here) Thanks you - Love Polly

Polly's Perch (Pilot Grove)
Nurtured by Nature from Kansas on 06/11/2005 11:16 AM:
My dad, daughter, and I rode the trail from Sedalia to Rocheport and back over Memorial Weekend 2005. There were many things to remember about the nature including the smell of honeysuckle and the critters we saw...22 squirrels, 13 turtles, 13 rabbits, 6 snakes (dead and alive), 4 turkeys, 2 salamanders, and 1 quail...(which my daughter counted and made a song about). What a beautiful ride. The one thing we will always remember is Pauline at Polly's Perch!! What a great lady!! We stayed there on the way to Rocheport and on the way back. The hospitality was out of this world! Polly we love you and thanks for your part in making our weekend one to remember.

McKeough from Joplin, MO on 08/03/2005 12:58 PM:
My husband, my 3-year old son, and myself spent our family vacation biking the Katy Trail. After getting off of the train in Sedalia on a VERY hot Monday afternoon, we rode our bike 4 miles out THE WRONG DIRECTION. After struggling to get back to Sedalia, we had a lovely evening at Sedalia's Best Western. Getting up a 4am the next day, we rode the 26 miles to Polly's Perch in Pilot Grove and did not want to leave. She has a wonderfully restored brick bungalow sitting right on the trail with a beautifully screened-in front porch. We sat there that Tuesday evening and watched as a cooling downpour occured. It was much needed. We was able to meet her dear baby brother, nephew, and Polly's son Dustin. We had a wonderful time. Good food, good conversation, and a wonderful place to relax. Highly recommend spending your night before or after Sedalia at Polly's place.

wordbird2 from Fort Collins, CO on 10/09/2006 04:11 AM:
My husband and I rode the entire Katy Trail from Clinton to St. Charles. Polly's B&B was our second stop. We enjoyed our brief stay and Polly's refreshing and warm hospitality. We hope you will consider a stay at Polly's when passing through Pilot Grove. You must try her pies which are well-known along the KT by many locals!

My daughter, dad, and I again rode the trail and stayed at Polly's Perch, June 2007. It was just like coming home to family. It is clean and the hospitality is out of this world! We love you Polly, thanks.

We stayed at Polly's B&B July 1, 2007. Pauline must have seen us coming as she met us at the front door and welcomed us by name. We had just finished 50 miles traveling from Hartsburg on an out-and-back. During our stay we met this wonderful couple, Andrew & Sara, who, coincidentally, were staying at the Globe Hotel in Hartsburg (same as us) the next night.

Pauline was the most wonderful hostess and immediately made us feel right at home. We arrived on a Sunday evening at 6:00pm, so the only place open to get any food was the Casey's General Store. We had an AWESOME home-made pizza and consumed it while sitting on the screened in front porch at Polly's. It was quaint, quiet and relaxing. Just a short walk from Polly's was a beautiful cemetery that is great for just walking around relaxing the Gluteous Maximus! The next morning Pauline sent us on our way with a SPECTACULAR breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast w/ OJ, milk, water, coffee, the works! And if you're still hungry (which you won't be), there's those little boxes of cereal too! What a GREAT experience. Pauline, we WILL be back! Thanks a MILLION, we didn't want to leave!

I stayed at Polly's on Friday May 25th 07 and had a great time. Polly is a wonderful person and a great hostess. Her breakfast and home made pies were out of this world. The house is very clean and I will be back on my next trip on the Katy Trail..... Thanks Polly....if your wondering I made it all the way!

We just spent the night at Polly's on May 12. Polly herself is a wonderful hostess and fixed us a breakfast fit for a king. We had to tell her to stop bringing the waffles out!! She sat and visited with us over breakfast and we had some good laughs and conversation. The house is cute with a really nice front porch to sit out on after a long day or early in the morning before you start a day. If you are in the area, definitely consider staying here. You won't be disappointed.

Polly's was great! To us it was like going to a favorite relatives' place. Tom played Yahtzee with Polly and her visiting family. I think the wine and leftovers made this a really special first night on the trail. Thanks Polly!

We just spent 6 nights on the trail and this was our last and favorite place. Polly is a gracious woman who served pie and iced tea upon our arrival late in the afternoon. Breakfast was huge and delicious (waffles, eggs, bacon, toast, fruit, juice and tea). She showed us small town Missouri hospitality. If you can't sleep here, stop for lunch Tuesday-Friday.

Polly's is a little piece of heaven. A very nice lady who runs a lovely bed and breakfast a stone's throw from the Katy Trail. She will make you a breakfast fit for a lumberjack.

Also, about a ten minute walk from her place is John El's BBQ, open on Friday and Saturday only. Definitely worth a visit as well.

Sedalia Area
FES from Olathe, Kansas on 06/07/2005 06:36 PM:
My wife and I are planning a trip to Sedalia to ride the trail for the day. I hear that the downtown area is a good starting point for access to the trail. Would anyone have a suggestion on which direction to take out of Sedalia? I also hear that there are some decent restaurants in Sedalia near the trail - any thoughts?

Marty from Los Gatos, CA on 06/08/2005 03:17 PM:
We were in Sedalia last weekend. The trail between Sedalia and Clinton is very straight and consistently adjacent to farms. The trail east of Sedalia has slightly more variety, so I would recommend you go that direction. Have fun!

D & K from Blue Springs, MO on 06/10/2005 06:17 PM:
We rode the trail Memorial Day weekend on our tandem. We camped at Windsor's Farrington Park (great managers...extremely nice and helpful!)@ $5 a night. We rode from Windsor to Clinton and back one day...Windsor to Sedalia and back the next. The honeysuckle smelled great. The first day, a thunderstorm came up at the end of our ride. Sort of scary. The two Sedalia trailheads are not in the downtown by the courthouse, and it was too late to catch any businesses open for us so we just ate our pb sandwiches and apples and oj, water and made the return trip. We didn't see any restaurants near the trail except maybe a Hardees.

D & K from Blue Springs, MO on 06/11/2005 08:16 AM:
Correction...I had Clinton and Sedalia mixed up. I don't know if Sedalia even has a courthouse!! Yeah, that Hardees was in Sedalia, on 50 I think.

Sarah from Denver CO on 06/11/2005 06:43 PM:
We just got back from riding the whole trail from Clinton to St Charles and my favorite part was from Sedalia to Boonville. It's very wooded and there is actually some downhill between Pilot Grove and Boonville! We averaged 10.5 mph for most of the trip, but hit 16-17 mph in that section. Like some others who posted replies, we loved Pauline at Polly's Tea House in Pilot Grove. While we were eating lunch, several of her friends came for lunch and they were just lovely--all ladies and very friendly.

Jane and Tom from St. Louis on 06/26/2005 10:28 PM:
We were biking the trail and ventured into Downtown Sedalia. There is a really good place called the Ivy Cottage Tearoom. Cute decor and the food is great. There is patio seating and a bike rack available if you want to eat inside. I don't think they are open in the evening but definately worth a stop if you are there for lunch or a morning break.

ET from Columbia, MO on 06/27/2005 06:54 PM:
We had a good dinner at DelAmici's, in the Hotel Bothwell, right on the courthouse squire. They are not open on Sundays.
