Subscribe / Other Back IssuesKT Alert Katy Trail News for September 29, 2004Welcome to the KT Alert email, courtesy of www.BikeKatyTrail.com, keeping you updated on the Katy Trail. If you do not wish to receive these emails, see removal instructions at the end of the email. -- November Trail Closure -- Beginning November 1, the Katy Trail will be CLOSED between miles 144.4 and 149.5, which is between the N. Jefferson and Claysville trailheads. ***The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will NOT have a detour in place.*** This is due to a construction project at mile 147.2, which has already reduced the trail to half its usual width in that area. The DNR expects the trail to reopen by December 1. -- BikeKatyTrail.com T-Shirts -- A friend of mine who's in the t-shirt business designed some very nice BikeKatyTrail.com t-shirts, which I'm happy to offer for sale at the website. These high quality 100% cotton shirts have a stylized trail design on the front, and a map of the Katy Trail on the back with town names and mileages, plus our website logo. Check it out at http://www.bikekatytrail.com/KTShirt.asp -- Machens Extension -- Last time I told you about the eastern extension of the Katy Trail beyond St Charles, an additional 12 miles to Machens. At that time, the DNR sounded like they expected the extension to be finished very soon, but they are still trying to work out some issues with the levees that the trail crosses. They won't even venture to guess when this might be resolved, but we hope it will be soon! I'll let you know if/when I hear anything. -- Katy Trail Event Spotlight -- Trekking for the Troops Run and Ride On October 23, the Missouri Veterans Commission is sponsoring a 5K walk, 5K/10K runs, and 5K/10K bike rides, to benefit veterans programs. This event will start at the pavilion on the JeffCity spur, just off of the N Jefferson trailhead. Details: http://www.bikekatytrail.com/event.asp?eid=68&etype=2 Or go to our Events page to look for other events along the Katy Trail that might interest you: http://www.bikekatytrail.com/events.asp -- Katy Trail New Business Spotlight -- Keeping with the military theme, there's a new B&B in Boonville: The Officer's Club, which is across the street from the former Kemper Military Academy. The B&B is housed in a building that served many roles during Kemper's history, including barracks. http://www.bikekatytrail.com/site.asp?sid=508 -- Share Your Katy Trail Experience -- Do you have a ride report or favorite photos from the Katy Trail? I'm always on the lookout for ride reports and good photos to publish on www.BikeKatyTrail.com! Thanks for your interest in www.BikeKatyTrail.com.
